Nutrition Tip: Eat this, not that!

Simple yet effective hacks that (actually) work.
This week, I'm sharing a few tips that will help keep those pounds off the scale. I myself, sometimes struggle with low self-control after a very hectic day. You may be surprised just how much small daily decisions impact the willpower you have for more important choices; like your eating habits. You might want to go to the gym and workout or opt for healthier meals, but your brain would rather default to the easy decision: sit on the couch and eat junk.

That’s decision fatigue.

It turns out that there are simple choices you can make, that will help you master your willpower and make better decisions (in fitness and nutrition) on a more consistent basis.

I've listed three easy hacks to combat decision fatigue and help you make better choices with your eating habits this week!

Let's get started..

Hack #1: Kickstart the day with 500ml of H2o (that's water for ya)

Jump start the hydration process by drinking 500ml before anything else. Yes, that includes your morning OJ. All too often, headaches, cravings and mood swings are just causes of being dehydrated. So be sure to drink 500ml of water the minute you wake up. If you want a little bit of taste and a natural dose of Vitamin C, go ahead and add a slice of lemon in there! Being well hydrated will decrease your chances of drinking soda or sugar filled drinks throughout the day. Choose water, always.

Hack #2: Lettuce wrap EVERYTHING!!

Need a quick to-go meal but don't feel like eating a salad? Grab a burger! Yep, you read that right. Burgers aren't as bad as you think they are, it's actually a protein packed meal. It's the buns making you feel bloated and sluggish! Cut the carbs and make it a 'Fightshape Approved' burger by ditching the bread and replacing it with lettuce! McDonalds burger doesn't count and don't forget to ditch the french fries too. (Btw, cabbage makes for a great alternative!)

Hack #3: Plan, Plan, and Plan!

There will always be decisions that suddenly pop-up everyday that you can't plan for. That's fine. It's just part of life.

But for most of us, the decisions that drain us are the ones that we make over and over and over again. Wasting precious willpower these decisions — which could be automated or planned in advance — is one reason why many people feel so drained at the end of the day.

For example, decisions like…

What am I going to wear to work? What should I eat for breakfast? Should I go to the gym before or after work? Should I pack my lunch?

All of those examples above, can be decided in 3 minutes or less the night before, which means you won't be wasting your willpower on those choices the next day and risk making the wrong decision. Taking time to plan out, simplify, and design the repeated daily decisions will give you more mental space to make the important choices each day.

Make good choices this week,
